Parks and Gardens

Grün Berlin GmbH has organisational and, in some instances, horticultural responsibility for around 250 hectares of parkland in Berlin.

The city of Berlin’s outstanding parks include the two former show gardens from 1985 and 1987: the Britzer Garden and the “Gardens of the World" in Marzahn Recreational Park. Both are popular with Berlin residents and visitors to the city, who, moreover, are quite happy to pay an entrance fee to enjoy their exceptional beauty.

Britzer Garten
The Britzer Garden is Berlin’s family park and was created for the National Horticultural Show in 1985. This green space draws widespread praise for its exceptional maintenance standards. In addition to the sea of flowers in the herbaceous perennial beds and the spring and summer blooms, the range of conservation-focused family activities on offer is particularly popular. The 90-hectare park with 10 hectares of lakes offers garden art, gastronomy, concerts, major events with fireworks, sports and health facilities, animals and a museum railway – but above all beautifully manicured gardens and unspoilt nature. The Britzer Garden was voted one of Germany’s most beautiful gardens in 2002.

Gardens of the World in the Marzahn Recreational Park
The whole world in one garden: Bali and China, England in the form of a maze and France as a labyrinth, Japan and Korea, the gardens of the Orient and of the Italian Renaissance: On the slope of the Kienberg stretches probably the most extensive collection of international show gardens in the world – planned and laid out by architects, artists and artisans from the respective countries and regions. The original garden art of the world comes to life in the „“Garden of the Regained Moon“, the “Garden of the Converging Water," the “Garden of the Three Harmonies" and the “Garden of the Four Rivers," in the Korean “Seoul Garden" and in the “Giardino della Bobolina". Events from the respective countries and cultural groups of the gardens feature regularly in the annual programme for the “Gardens of the World."

Schöneberger Südgelände Nature Park
On the site of a former switchyard a unique cultural landscape of untamed nature, the relics of old railway technology and modern art has evolved over the decades in the heart of Berlin. The Nature Park is at once a place of diversity and of contrasts. As diverse as its flora and fauna is the use of this cultural landscape.
Here nature, man, technology, culture and art come together, creating a tension that fires the imagination and fuels creativity. Rust-brown steel sculptures by the ODIOUS group in the form of walkways, tree houses and pipes open up the nature reserve, facilitating insights and views. The “Giardino Segreto", the secret garden with artworks, seats and plant pots all created from steel, is the summertime venue for concerts and events.
