Park Management
Grün Berlin GmbH currently manages green spaces with a total area of around 250 hectares, including three parks and gardens which charge an entrance fee: the Britzer Garten, created for the National Horticultural Show in Berlin in 1985, the Gardens of the World in Marzahn Recreational Park, venue for the Berlin Garden Show in 1987, and the Schöneberger Südgelände Nature Park, a “Global Project" of EXPO 2000.
Grün Berlin GmbH’s management expertise ensures an exceptional cost/benefit ratio and that its parks and gardens are maintained in optimum condition. The success of these green spaces is underlined by the fact that they attract up to 1.7 million visitors per year.
“Nothing flourishes without care, and the value of the most sublime things is diminished by inappropriate handling." The words of the landscape architect Peter Joseph Lenné remain as valid today as they were in his time. For the creation of a park is just the first step. Drawing up the content and terms of reference for the award of a park tender establishes the initial commitments for a future park. Considering the long lifespan of a green space and taking into account functional, aesthetic or economic considerations, their impact can be positive or negative.
The expertise of the park and project manager is fully utilised by Grün Berlin GmbH when evaluating plans for parks or their special gardens. From the design stage the manager is responsible for the integration of management criteria, optimising the cost/benefit ratio and ensuring that specialist horticultural issues are addressed.
The management of around 100 individual buildings is part of an integrated approach to park management. Accordingly, building-specific facility management, technical facility maintenance and rental and leasing management duties, together with technical event management responsibilities, are carried out to professional standards.
Park management is also embedded in specific target and programme planning for the further development of the parks. Objectives and the progress made towards their achievement are evaluated on an annual basis.
