Grün Berlin GmbH
Grün Berlin GmbH is the service company of Berlin region for all open space development projects. In the decades since its creation the company has successfully developed a number of quality green sites. Berlin is the seat of the German parliament and government and a cultural, service and tourism metropolis of international repute. Over 2,500 squares, parks and green open spaces offer scope for relaxation and to appreciate art and culture – many of these have been developed, planned and realised by Grün Berlin GmbH, including the Lustgarten park, the park on the Moabiter Werder, the Berlin Wall Trail, Monbijoupark, Leipziger Platz and the Berlin Wall Park.
The future challenges faced by cities in particular require new strategies and approaches in open space development and management. Climate change will have a particularly significant impact on life quality in urban areas. The ecological, social, cultural and economic targets of a sustainable development can only be achieved via an integrated approach to urban and open space development.
The private non-profit-making company of Berlin region assists the green metropolis in the formulation of urban development strategies via its four areas and interdisciplinary team. Technical and organisational innovations and professional management are required to ensure premium-quality, cost-effective open space development.
These objectives are paramount in the four different divisions of die Grün Berlin GmbH: - Project development - Project management - Park management - Marketing The marketing division is also responsible for event management.
Grün Berlin GmbH is also responsible for the capital’s network of tourism gardens: Berlins Grüne Seiten.
Berlin region is the sole shareholder of Grün Berlin GmbH.
The company’s work is overseen by a nine-person supervisory board. The chairman of the supervisory board is Maria Krautzberger, Permanent Secretary of the Senate Department for Urban Planning; the deputy chairman is graduate engineer Beate Profé, Head of Open Space Planning at the Senate Department for Urban Planning.
Managing director of the company is the graduate engineer Christoph Schmidt while Helmut Siering is the authorised representative.
